Except calling an animal rare does give people the wrong impression that it needs protecting which is a serious problem, irrelevant of what the OP’s intention was. Many unethical facilities try to justify breeding animals like golden tabby and white tigers by claiming they are rare and unless people are educated otherwise then it’s going to continue.

Most people simply have no idea how problematic these animals are and so by calling them rare with no additional commentary as to why they shouldn’t bred it just adds to the problem and encourages people to glorify and support their breeding.
